Description
Follow along with creative artist Dawn Emerson to capture the expression, movement, and energy of animals in your art! In this video demonstration you’ll use photo references to find an exciting animal subject, then learn how to create a dynamic composition by completing a water-soluble pencil sketch to emulate the feeling that you want to establish in the painting. From there you’ll follow along with a painting of this charging bull step by step.
You’ll start with a charcoal underpainting, placing big shapes on the surface, using an eraser as a drawing tool to establish a range of values. Then add Chinese ink and Gold and Silver watercolor tfor texture and subtle color as a next layer. Once dry, you’ll use pastels to build the animal from large shapes to small details. Dawn narrates her processes along the way, giving insightful painting tips and helpful insights so you can create your own dynamic pastel paintings.
