In this beginning-to-end painting demonstration, join artist Betsy Dillard Stroud as you discover how to paint loose and expressive figures! You?ll start by using fluid acrylics in transparent washes to create an underpainting. Next, you?ll learn how to continue through the painting by letting each color choice inform the next as you paint wet-into-wet. Betsy shows you how to play with your color and let yourself enjoy the paint while still thinking about composition and color harmony. You?ll develop the painting by using stamps to imply just enough detail while still leaving the viewer?s imagination a place to roam. Finally, opaques add contrast and interest to excite your surface and create an adventurous, expressive finished piece!

About Betsy Dillard Stroud
Betsy Dillard Stroud, a born Virginian, has lived in Arizona since 1996 and has been painting since the age of eight. A former art historian, Stroud received her M. A. in art history from the University of Virginia. Her paintings are filled with the marriage of her art history background, her love of color affected by the ambience of the west and the southwest, and the symbolism created by her life experiences. She is an acclaimed painter who has won many awards including the High Winds Medal in the American Watercolor Society in New York, and most recently the 2014 Dr. David Gale Award in the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies.
