Abstract Art for the Absolute Beginner with Debora Stewart
MATERIALS:
Surface
- Sanded pastel paper (Debora uses UArt for her color studies)
Pastels (Debora uses Unison brand)
- Variety of hard and soft pastels
- Variety of warm and cool colors, and neutrals
- Variety of values (dark, medium and light for each color)
- Full Demo: violets and greens with a range of neutrals
Other
- Paper towels
- Charcoal (vine and compressed)
- Newsprint (or other scrap paper)
- Color wheel (optional)
- Hairdryer
- Rubbing alcohol (flat synthetic brush and container for application; could use a foam brush if fewer brushstrokes preferred)

have re-watched Debora's videos several times each, focusing on something different each time. Wonderful teaching style, beautiful use of color and great explanation of how to handle pastels. Excellent presentation. Unanswered questions are how to "fix" the final pastel and how to translate this process to other media (e.g., acrylic). I would enjoy Volume 2 of this course!
