I just found this resource. Thanks! Seeing my attempt with the image side by side I can see that I drew the eyes much too close together, among other problems.
I enjoyed drawing this portrait. I used charcoal instead of graphite on gray toned paper. I’m pretty happy with the results but it doesn’t actually look like the reference model. I’m not quite sure what I did wrong with proportions.
Wonderful work, Heathyrre!
I stumbled on this website while searching my community art club site. I didn’t have any drawing supplies, and all I had was a piece of scratch pad paper and a Ticonderoga #2 pencil. Nevertheless, I just had to try this. I love the technique of blocking out the large areas first and then adding detail. Thank you for this wonderful instruction!
Loved this process! Would really like to understand what I am doing wrong to get the photo realistic look.
I did it completely your way using the shapes and tones to build and tried for less line. I had to watch the replay of the video because I missed the live
This is my first effort, I only found out about the class last week by chance and this is what I did with just 2 pencils didn’t have any art pencils at the time.
Hope it is ok.
I’m quite pleased with this one! Thank you, Scott, for all the help. And I enjoy seeing everyone’s vision. It’s so interesting to discover what someone else sees in the same image.
Love portraits! Having had no formal drawing instruction, I use a mixed approach: shape & tone to start out. I’d love your comments, Scott. Thank you!

Hi Scott,
Drawing that portrait was a challenge, but I learned a lot. As usual the drawing sessions was entertaining.
