Join the Conversation at the Art Bound Podcast
These aren’t your typical interview questions. We’re going deeper. And now you can chime in, too!
You may have heard about the Art Bound podcast by now. We’re a few episodes in, and we’ve already surveyed several artists’ deepest fears, struggles, and triumphs in their careers and creative lives. “It’s a really difficult profession,” says Art Bound host Doug Kacena. “We’ve been told all these myths and misconceptions that society and even we as artists have bought into. There are certain myths that we perpetuate — but we don’t need to.”
In each episode of Art Bound, Kacena sits down with two guest artists for real talk about the good, bad, and ugly of living the art life. “This isn’t the type of podcast where we say, ‘Please tell me your resume, your accolades, your upcoming shows, your techniques,’” Kacena says. “These conversations are vulnerable, where we ask, ‘What’s the real value of what we’re doing?’”
As an abstract artist, collector, and owner and director of K Contemporary gallery in Denver, Colorado, Kacena brings a unique perspective to guiding the conversation. “I’m an artist, and I think like an artist. But on top of that, the fact that I wear all of these different hats in the art community informs these conversations and the way I frame them. I’m really excited about having these vulnerable conversations.”
Lend Your Voice
Since the podcast’s launch on September 23, 2020, we’ve explored what it means to make scary and bold decisions in one’s art, to tackle and overcome insecurities, and to counter the myth that artists must be “starving” or creating art solely for the intrinsic value of it. Now we’re inviting you, the Artists Network community at large, to chime in and join the conversation.
We’re going Town Hall style, and we want your voice in the room. You’ll get to hear not only from the Art Bound podcast guests but also from your fellow artists in the Artist Network community. We’re aiming to pull back the curtain on how it really feels to pursue art as a profession, to expose both the great rewards and rough patches, and to further normalize having the same kinds of vulnerable conversations that our artworks often strive to provoke.
By participating here, you’re giving us permission to share your thoughts with the Artist Network community; your unique perspective — along with those of your fellow artists — may appear in future articles or even an episode of Art Bound coming down the pike. Are you in?
